This Sunday at Shift we’ll be talking about prayer and as I was preparing for our gathering I came across a prayer that I thought appropriate for all of us who went to the polls early and those of us who will be performing our civic duty sometime today.   So, if you’ve already voted or you’re heading out sometime today, here’s a prayer to contemplate for yourself and for every decision of conscious being made in our nation today.  —  Al

What a privilege it is to choose our leaders.  We can listen and think and decide who will run things.  We cannot take this lightly, Jesus.  You have given candidates different gifts and different ideas about how to lead.  You have blessed us with a nation that allows us to choose.  In no small part, our destiny is in our hands.  Today we make a decision about who will make the decisions for us.  Help us choose wisely.  Help us choose with respect for those who will stand at the front and say, “This is what we are going to do.”  Help us remember that those we disagree with are not our enemies.  Thank you for this opportunity, Jesus.  Let us use it to your glory.

“Make the Master proud of you by being good citizens.  Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God’s emissaries for keeping order. . . Exercise your freedom by serving God, not by breaking the rules.  Treat everyone you meet with dignity.  Love your spiritual family.  Revere God. Respect the government.” 1 Peter 2:13, 16-17
